Post Ghost Hunting & Religion
I downloaded the first season of Paranormal State last week and have been watching it some. First off I have to say this is definitely not one of my favorite paranormal shows, but with that being said, I have a few questions about some of the thing they do on this show.

#1: On the show they do blessings of houses and exorcisms and such. I was under the impression this could only be done by a Catholic Priest (just what i've gathered from other shows/ things I've heard) but on the show the guy in charge of the team does them or they have other psychics do them (people who are not priests or religious men of the church or whatever). Is it as effective to do it this way as it would with a Priest? Is it possible to do when your not a Priest?

#2: My other question is about their use of religion on the show. One episode I watched they used a Catholic Priest to do a blessing of a house (the only time I saw a religious figure on the show), and then in the next episode they used a pagan ritual to bind a lake (I think is what they were doing). Anyways my question is how can they mix religions that way? Especially when Catholics think witches are evil? It doesn't make sense to me that they would use both of these since they seem very contradictory. Personally I have no problem at all with Catholic or Pagans/Witches. It just seems to me that if you are doing things like house blessings and such it would make more sense to stick to one religion. If they are using Catholic Rituals, I have to believe they believe in God, otherwise why would they be doing that? And if that is the case, wouldn't God kinda stop listening to them or whatever after they did the pagan spell?

Again, I will say I have no problem at all with people who practice paganism (idk if thats the right word?) or who are Catholic/religious. I don't mean to offend anyone, just wondering how they can use both religious at the same time.

Yes, I have a friend of mine who blesses objects that she buys from second-hand stores (as they could come with 'extras' [heh :) ] attached with them) before she brings them into her house. And she's not a priest.

Could just be a marketing/ratings thing, maybe they want to bring in people of all faiths possible to their show?

Yeah, supposedly witches were never evil in the first place, that was just how the Christians portrayed them as to being.

They do blessings of nearly everything that doesn't move, including animals. Thhe concept goes back in histroy to the Catholic Church as a way to make money. A priest woulld come to a new house, bless it, get paid, a house possessed, cleanse it, get paid, etc. Poor taste if you ask me. If anyone is doing an y"blessing/cleansing, about the same, it should be a priest, any religious order will do.
